1st Annual Eggnog Mile Kicks off Alumni Gathering; Ultimate Streak Continues

Colby Pines (09) turned out at this year's annual gathering of past and present Campolindo and College Park cross country and track stars with the right combination of running fitness and digestive tolerance to win the 1st edition of the eggnog mile event.

Choking down 9 ounces of the cold, creamy holiday beverage before running each of the 4 laps seemed hardly a concern for the recent Princeton grad as he covered the distance in 5:20. Only Chris Garvey (14) was able to muster a challenge, leading the first lap, but ultimately finishing 20 seconds back.

In the girls' division, Mary Orders (15), a late addition to the field, stole the crown. Falcon alums Lauren Crawford (09) and Susie Goetz (99) just could not match the youngster's guzzling greatness.

Pines and Orders earned Garmin GPS watches for their victories, while the rest of the top 10 finishers received Timex watches or apparel items.

The race was followed by the traditional Ultimate Death Match, which enjoyed its traditional lopsided outcome.

Youngsters Bring Numbers, Fall behind Early as Veterans Dominate Death Match

In spite of an impressive turnout for the current Campolindo and College Park athletes, the 2013 edition of the Alumni Ultimate Frisbee Death Match turned out to be more of the same as the unstoppable force of maturity scored virtually at will. As the final quarter of play expired, the Alumni enjoyed a 16 point lead, 22-6.

With the likes of David Vigil (98), Betsy Sale (01), Ashley Allen (02), Jared Oubre (04), Justin Delessert (05), Lauren Crawford (09), Kelsey Gallagher (10), and Will Holland (11) representing the Falcons, as well as Campolindo graduates that included Jason Budge (09), Michael Brondello (09), Colby Pines (09), Darren Brodowy (12), Thomas Joyce (12), Kevin Gelston (12), Juliet Farnan (12), and Andy VanHeuit (13), the youngsters had their hands full.

The contest began with a quick score from the current athletes. Unfortunately for them, it was their only lead of the day. What followed was a brutal offensive assault by the veterans.

Nevertheless, in the spirit of the holidays, fun and goodtimes were enjoyed be all.

Another Year, Another Alumni Victory

Nearly a decade after many of the alumni have graduated, they still managed to run up the score against the youngsters at the 2012 edition of the annual Ultimate death match. Liz Noey, Ashley Allen, Nicole Pennes, Allison Finley, Justin Delessert, Jeremy Rubio, Steven Menegus, Braden Pivirotto, Jared Oubre, Eric Tedmus, Beau Cazet, Kent Henry represented some of the more "seasoned" veterans, while Jeff Bickert, Anthony Ortolan, Leland Wong, Kevin Gelston, Greg Garcia and Kevin Strongman brought new blood to the Alumni team.

Sideline appearances were also made by 1999 NCS cross country championship team captain Patty Paik, and Falcon sprint record holder Liz Williams.

Unfortunately, the youngsters once again struggled to field a team, in part due to a rather tacky mid-match disappearance of most of their female players. Nevertheless, the chilly morning saw nearly 50 former and current Campolindo and College Park athletes competing and socializing.

Cougars, Falcons Join Forces in Annual Alumni Ultimate; Youngsters Flounder

For the first time in it's fifteen year history, the Alumni Ultimate Deathmatch combined College Park and Campolindo athletes as Chuck's cross country and track alumni faced off against current athletes of both schools. The event, hosted at Campolindo High School, featured some formidable talent, including 1999 NCS team champion captain Patty Paik, 2003 state champion Liz Noey, DMR school record holder Colby Pines, 2010 NCS individual champion Jeff Bickert, 1600m school record holder Anthony Ortolan, and "JVBoyz" founder Justin Delessert.

The all-star cast of alumni was just too much for the youngsters to handle, as they found themselves down by 8 points at half time. In the end, the alumni held off a late charge by their youthful opponents to earn a 13-4 victory.
