Cougars, Falcons Join Forces in Annual Alumni Ultimate; Youngsters Flounder

For the first time in it's fifteen year history, the Alumni Ultimate Deathmatch combined College Park and Campolindo athletes as Chuck's cross country and track alumni faced off against current athletes of both schools. The event, hosted at Campolindo High School, featured some formidable talent, including 1999 NCS team champion captain Patty Paik, 2003 state champion Liz Noey, DMR school record holder Colby Pines, 2010 NCS individual champion Jeff Bickert, 1600m school record holder Anthony Ortolan, and "JVBoyz" founder Justin Delessert.

The all-star cast of alumni was just too much for the youngsters to handle, as they found themselves down by 8 points at half time. In the end, the alumni held off a late charge by their youthful opponents to earn a 13-4 victory.

Rosenthal Emerges as Cycling Force for Collegiate National Champions

Overcoming asthma was just one of the challenges Shawn Rosenthal (04) faced on the road to athletic success. Diagnosed with a variety of physical ailments as a young boy, doctors recommended that Rosenthal avoid endurance activities and high impact athletics. However, upon entering high school in 2000-2001, with encouragement from Campolindo coaches and teachers, Rosenthal began a journey that would see him grow into a competitive runner, and then, an elite cyclist.

Gaining confidence through high school cross country and track, Rosenthal developed an affinity for the trials of endurance sports. In his junior year he joined Tieni Duro, a junior development bike racing team. During his senior cross country and track season he climbed through the junior national cycling ranks, capping the year with a 16th place finish at the USA Championships.

Now a member of the UC Davis Category "A" Team, Rosenthal recently helped the Aggies to the 2006 Division I Collegiate National Title. A medallist in the team time trial event, Rosenthal's story is a lesson in perseverance.
