Cella's #2 All-Time 800m Wins Tri-Valley

With an astonishing final 150m, Sarah Cella (16) surprised the favorites, as well as herself, to claim the girls' 800m title at Saturday's NCS Tri-Valley Championships in Pleasanton.

After clinging to California's Madison Ricks for 3 quarters of the race, Cella simply moved to the outside and blasted through the final stretch for the win. After an opening split of 67, Cella closed in 70. The 2:16.64 mark moves the sophomore to #2 in school history.

Also advancing to next week's Meet of Champions for the girls' were Brighie Leach (15) and Mary Orders (15), who set new personal bests of their own in the 1600m before returning to qualify a 2nd time by finishing among the top 7 in the 3200m.

Leach knocked 5 seconds off her 1600m time, finishing 3rd in 4:54.80. Orders improved her mark to 5:04.64. The duo are now 3rd and 7th, respectively, on the school record board.

Moving up the Boys' All-Time list was Aidan Goltra (14), who finished 3rd in the boys' 1600m at 4:18.12. Goltra also advanced to the NCS MOC in the 3200m.

Justin Pfaff (16) soared over 6-2 in the high jump to earn 7th place while Jack Shurtz (15) added a foot to his discus mark, taking 5th place.
