Varsities Earn Victories in Wet Conditions at Las Lomas; Frosh Soph Squads Stumble

With unsettled weather throughout the region leading up to Wednesday's DAL dual meet at Las Lomas, whether or not competition would even be conducted was uncertain. However, after a vigorous downpour upon the Cougar's arrival at the stadium, conditions improved drastically. At the end of the day, all but the vertical jumps were effectively contested as Campolindo managed a split with the Knights.

While the varsity squads churned out yet another set of victories, the frosh soph teams, depleted by injury and illness, suffered their first defeats of the 2023 season. Nevertheless, highlights included a sweep of the horizontal jumps by freshman Sean Parker (26), who skipped his way to 35 feet in the triple jump after winning the long jump at 16-11.

Sarah Graves (26) won the frosh soph girls' 400m race and Jasia Hilaski (26) picked up another victory in the 300 hurdles. In the 3200m, Helen Shephard (25) improved by 30 seconds over her previous best.

Surprisingly, the top mark of the day came in the discus, where Pinkie Schnayer (24) launched the platter to a 6th-all-time distance of 114 feet and 3 inches. The boys' varsity throwing competition was dominated by Bryce McLaverty's (24) 43-foot toss in the shot put and Ben Axelrod's (25) 116-foot flight in the discus.
