Rookies Outmaneuver Veterans, Dominate Annual HVP Orienteering Championships

Using a generous staggered start to his advantage, rookie Alec Driver (21) out ran and out witted his more seasoned teammates to capture the overall victory at Saturday's annual Orienteering Championships at Hidden Valley Park. Expertly navigating the varied terrain, Driver found each control point and returned to the start in 49 minutes and 45 seconds, just 1 second ahead of veteran champion Nolan Wilson (20).

The top tandem finished 1 minute and 45 seconds ahead of 3rd place overall finisher and veteran runner-up Eric Fossen (19).

The girls' competition was dominated by rookie Alicia Hober (20), who, in spite of a sizeable time disadvantage, used a ferocious pace between checkpoints to make up the stagger. Her nearest rookie girl competitor, Bianca Chao (19), finished over 8 minutes behind.

Chloe Guthrie (19) won the veteran girls' division in 66 minutes and 20 seconds.
