Kalish Soars to MOC Vault Title; Verdon, Isaacs Runners Up; Boys' Relay Lands Podium Spot with Second All-Time Mark
Putting aside his previous week's frustrations at the Tri-Valley Championships, Alex Kalish (10) soared through his first four heights without missing, on his way to a fifteen foot clearance that improved his own school record and won the NCS Meet of Champions pole vault title on Saturday at Berkeley's Edwards Stadium.
The victory earned Kalish a trip to the 2010 CIF State Championships on June 4th at Clovis High School. Joining Kalish on the trip will be Carrie Verdon (12), who continued her own climb up the record board with a runner up finish in the 1600m final, clocking the second fastest time in school history.
Securing her second consecutive State Meet appearance, Eva Isaacs (10) finished second in the discus with a toss of 121-10.
Saturday's MOC finals were topped by the boys' 1600 relay squad's exciting 6th place finish, featuring a 49.6 split from Michael Hoffman (10) to lead the quartet to the second all-time record board mark. Earlier in the day, relay anchor Matt Keeble (10) had already earned a second all-time mark in the 110 Hurdles!
Other outstanding performances included a four inch long jump improvement for Hadley Swanson (13), a third all-time mark for Grace Orders (11) in the 3200m, and Emily Brennan's (10) 800m trial effort in 2:17.4ce.
