| West Coast Relays RESULTS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE Li Vaults aboard All-Time List with 12-9 Clearance; Senior Distance Stars Shine before Storm Wrecks West Coast Relays Malik Li (26) wrapped up his pole vault competition at Buchanan High School's Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis with a 6-inch improvement, earning the sophomore a spot on Campolindo's all-time record list at 12 feet, 9 inches. Fortunately, the event concluded just moments before dark clouds billowed in from the west, bringing intense wind and steadily increasing rain to Saturday's West Coast Relays. Prior to the sudden storm, Cougar seniors fared well against the top-notch competitors from across the state in the girls' open 1600m. While Shea Volkmer (24) again pulled away from the field in the final laps, Kate Kabenina (24) and Daisy Penney (24) also enjoyed career highs, finishing in 5:03.66 and 5:05.50, respectively. Both marks rank among the top 20 in school history. In the boys' 1600m, Alex Thomasson (24) pressed hard from 300 meters out to chip away at his own personal best. His 4:22.55 clocking is now 18th all-time. In spite of a cross-wind at the discus sector, Grace Allen (25) managed to increase her PR by 4 feet, moving up to 10th on the record board. While the raging wind caused problems for many events, it was welcomed by the sprinters for the brief interval that it provided assistance down the homestretch during the 100m races. Thomas Berg (26) benefitted from a 4.7+ wind-gage reading to streak under the 11-minute barrier for the 1st time.
