35 Second Pack Margin Earns Return to Podium for Varsity Girls; Pulford's 32 Second Improvement Leads Boys
Barely able to stand after an exhausting 5k performance to finish in the top twenty at the CIF Championships, Grace Orders (11) staggered through the chute crowded by teammates. Lisa Rosenthal (09), Laurie Finnegan (08) and Sara Mostatabi (11) crossed the line in a tight cluster, with Emily Brennan (10) just 14 seconds behind to give the Cougars an astounding 35 seconds margin between their scoring five to overcome perennial state power Corona Del Mar and section rival Maria Carrillo for a place on the medal stand at the 2007 edition of the California State Meet.
The Varsity Girls' third place finish is their best season finish since Campolindo earned runner-up honors in 2003!
Robert Pulford (09) took another step forward for the Varsity Boys', shedding 32 seconds off his previous Woodward course best to finish 28th. Following the Cougar top gun, Ross Geiger (09) held on for 40th, and Paul Jackson (10) took over the third spot for the squad in 59th. The NCS Champions managed to stay ahead of Acalanes and Las Lomas for a second consecutive week to lock up eighth place.
