Miller Keeps Boys' Streak Alive; Madra Drops Two Minutes, Cimino Crushes Best by 5:26 at First DFAL Center Meet
Jim Cimino (14) knocked over five minutes off his previous two-mile record with an 18:01 clocking on the hilly Hidden Valley Park course in scoring heat at Wednesday's first DFAL center meet. With the tough conditions, the scrappy freshman was the only Cougar boy to improve by more than a minute on his personal best.
Meanwhile, Meera Madra (13) continued to round into form with a two minute improvement over her last race time, finishing second for her frosh soph girls' squad and sixth overall. Megan Adachi (14) wrapped up the scoring for the underclassmen with a 15:46 performance to help the team defend their league title.
In all, five of six squads stayed perfect in league competition with wins over all six schools, while the frosh soph boys squad took five of six match ups. A motivated Las Lomas team toped the reigning champions 23-32.
The closest competition of the day came in the showdown between two of the state's top ranked teams. The feisty Knights of Las Lomas took the varsity boys to the brink, leading the point battle through the second mile. Fortunately, Leland Wong (12) and Bradley Miller (11) stepped up to be this week's heroes with 4th and 7th place finishes, while late race surges from Vinson Compestine (12) and Keith Geiger (11) sealed the win over the league and section rivals.
