Finnane Rocks Debut, Semenza Shows How Summer Miles Make Difference as Harriers Test Fitness in Practice Meet With just 2 weeks of cross country under her belt, senior "rookie" Toni Finnane (15) proved some things are worth the wait. Her 12:35 mark for 2 miles on the newly configured Hidden Valley Park course was fastest of the day across both girls divisions. That's saying something considering the caliber of athletes who race in the veteran division later in the day. Reigning state team titlists Mary Orders (15) and Rachel Johnson (15) put up impressive times of their own, both cracking 13 minutes to finish on the heels of Dougherty Valley's top guns. Junior Hana Sun (16) was also close to the leaders, finishing in 13:04. In fact, the Cougar girls' pack margin had 6 athletes clustered within just 1:10 at the finish of the veteran race. The highlight of the boys' competition was the runner-up performance from Jonathan Semenza (16), who, after his first summer of dedicated training, leapfrogged 3 teammates he had previously never beaten. The veteran boys also demonstrated an impressive pack with Parker Lothamer (15) leading a quartet through the line in 11:09. Casey Chambers (18) topped the Campo newcomers with a 12:23 effort to claim 2nd place in the rookie race.
