Frosh Soph Boys Regain Title Hopes with Division Sweep at Newhall Center Meet; Kabenina Breaks All-Time 2-Mile Record

After suffering defeat at the hands of strong College Park and Las Lomas teams in September's 1st Diablo Athletic League center meet of the season, the Cougar frosh soph boys' squad put together an impressive response on Wednesday, claiming the 4th, 5th, and 6th overall individual places with sub-13-minute finishes from Benoit Pelchat (25), Cody De La Cruz (26), and Josiah Beardsley (25). The trio helped Campolindo turn the tables on their rivals, earning a sweep of the division and positioning the squad for a title showdown on November 5th.

The frosh soph girls clinched their own undefeated outing by virtue of a 1-2-3 finish from Anya Houston (26), Carina Trento (26), and Libby Wong (26). In spite of warm and dusty conditions, Houston's winning time of 12:56 is now the 6th fastest in school history on the Newhall Park 2-mile course.

Cale Anderson (24) joined Alessandro Paolieri (23) at the font of the blue and white pack to ensure another perfect regular season for the junior varsity boys. The squad placed 6 in the top 9 to dominate the team competition.

The final non-varsity race of the day featured a spectacular performance from the front-running duo of Kate Kabenina (24) and Daisy Penney (24). Both juniors broke the previous school record on the course, with Kabenina taking the victory in 12:37.

With Clayton Valley resting most of its varsity team in preparation for Friday's Mt. SAC Invitational, a depleted Campolindo boys squad managed to remain on top of the league standings heading into the championships. Baron Walsh (24) helped salvage the team win with a career best 16:15 for 3 miles.

The varsity girls' team continued its pursuit of all-time greatness with another trouncing of the league. Caroline McCool (23) and Rachel Moen (24) posted personal records for the distance as the Cougars placed 6 finishers among the top 7. Moen's improvement was a whopping 60 seconds over the mark she set at the DLS Invite a month prior.
