Center Meet #1 RESULTS AT BOTTOM OF PAGE Boys Set HVP Course Record; Broncos End Girls' 11-year Streak at DAL Center Meet An abrupt turn in the weather offered unique and advantageous conditions for all competitors at Wednesday's Diablo Athletic League center meet. Cloudy skies brought light rain throughout the afternoon, lowering temperatures and tamping down the normally dusty trails through Hidden Valley Park. The meet began with a promising showing from the frosh soph girls, who managed to remain undefeated for the season. Adeline Travis (29) assumed the front-running role for the Cougars, winning the race with a personal best of 13:35. Backing up the freshman were Rana Beeson (28), Vasy Predatko (28), and Katherine Vonderbrink (28), who each finished among the top 10 individuals. The other non-varsity team win came from the junior varsity boys, who were buoyed by a 28-second PR from Matteo Marchetti (27). While the frosh soph boys suffered from a short-handed lineup due to injury and illness, as well as a few lapses in focus through the finishing stretch, they did manage to come within 1 point of the winning Las Lomas squad. Jonah Thompson (28) provided the low stick for the Cougars with an individual victory. Placing 4 scorers in the top 10, the junior varsity girls claimed runner-up honors behind a deep Northgate squad. Caroline Galindo (28) came through with a clutch 5th-place individual finish, passing several competitors over the final mile. The Broncos continued their impressive early-season momentum by handing the varsity girls their 1st league loss in over a decade. While Jillian Randolph (28) and Amalia Contreras (27) gave Campolindo an advantage up front, their squad could not overcome the strong performances from Northgate's 3-through-6 quartet, who finished within 15 seconds of each other and all ahead of the Cougars' #4 scorer. Concluding on a considerable high note, the varsity boys took full advantage of the cooler-than-expected conditions to unleash the greatest team performance in the history of the course. Through 2 miles, the Cougars held the top 7 places in the race. While Caden Ehrhorn (28) ran unchallenged at the front from wire to wire, it was Nikola Van Delft (27) who pressed relentlessly through the middle miles to inspire an historic effort from his teammates. By the time the front of the race crossed over the double bridges and began the ascent of Finale Hill, College Park's Grayson Langford and Brennon Tennant along with Berean Christian's Samuel Ruiz had finally broken into the top 10, foiling what otherwise would have been the 1st perfect-score-sweep of a varsity boys' race in league history. With 4 athletes crossing the finish in under 16 minutes and a scoring pack margin of just 35 seconds, Campolindo eclipsed the previous team-time record set in 2011 by 85 seconds. Carter Cook (27) lowered his career best on the 3-mile course by an astounding 93 seconds, while Samuel Hearn dropped 1 of the all-time greatest HVP 3-mile debuts to finish 6th in 16:05.
