Testa Sets School Record to Win Hurdles; Jay Bounds 40 feet in Triple Jump at WCR

Saturday's West Coast Relays, hosted at Buchanan High School's Memorial Stadium, offered opportunity for a select group of Campolindo athletes to face top competition from across the state in the CIF championship venue.

While the 80+ degree weather was tough for distance athletes, the sprinters and hurdlers thrived. After helping the 400 relay squad to a season best 49.12, Mari Testa (23) made the most of optimal conditions to torch the 100 hurdle field with a school-record clocking of 14.89. It is the top time in the event in the entire North Coast Section.

The junior then returned to the track an hour later to post the best 100m open performance of her career. At 12.14, the junior is just a tenth of a second from the school record set by Campolindo track & field legend, Maddy Doane.

Continuing his own school-record quest, Mason Fara surprised the favorites to win the 400m in 49.65. The performance moves the senior to 6th on the record board.

In the 300 hurdles, Sara Tabibian (22) continued her own assault on the record list with a 45.53 finish, good enough for 2nd all-time in school history.

The Fresno fireworks weren't just limited to the track as Leighton Jay (23) added 2 and a half feet in the triple jump, toping the 40-foot barrier for the 1st time. Also in the field, Anna Stubbington (23) slung the discus 110 feet, 5 feet farther than her previous PR.

In spite of the heat, there were highlights in the distance events, as Sam Smith (22) rolled to a 9-second improvement in the 1600m, finishing in 4:32.92. Blake Webster (23) broke the 4:30 mark for the 1st time in the event, and Alex Lodewick (23) turned in a fine 4:23.03 PR before closing out the long day of competition with a strong finish to win the 3200m race.

In the girls' 1600m race, Angeni Lieben (22) ran consistent splits to earn a 7-second improvement.
