Cougar track & field alumnus and 3200m school record holder Tom Hale (71) greeted parents and athletes at Tuesday evening's awards dinner. The former distance running star, who finished 4th at the 1971 California state championships in what was long considered the greatest distance race in American high school history, shared his memories about training, racing and lessons learned through a lifetime in the running community. Hale attributed much of his success as a business owner to the fundamental character traits he developed through running, and encouraged athletes to use the athletic experience to learn about themselves.
