Distance Trio Claims Titles at 2024 Event Testing; McCasland Tops Rookie Girls
3 out of 4 division winners at Saturday's track team event testing came from the endurance training group, including veteran girl's champion Shea Volkmer (24), who streaked to a stadium-record performance in the 1200m race to cap an outstanding all-around effort. The senior standout was joined on the podium by fellow distance runners Daisy Penney (24) and Kate Kabenina (24).
Middle-distance specialist Max Marino (24) earned the veteran boys' crown with top times in both the 300m and 1200m events. Joey Floyd (24), yet another representative from the endurance group, finished 2nd overall in the point total.
Taiyo Chiba (27) helped with the distance runner hat trick by outperforming his rookie counterparts. The freshman finished nearly a minute ahead of rookie runner-up Henry Franklin (26) in the 3-lap finale to clinch his victory.
Only the rookie girls division saw a member of the speed training group climb to the top of the rankings. An excellent 43.2 clocking in the 300m sprint propelled freshman Jasmine McCasland (27) to the overall lead in spite of wet conditions. Her distance-running sister, Kiona McCasland (27) finished 2nd in points.
