Wirth, Hughes Win Rookie Honors at Event Testing; Swanson Scores Fourteen
After team wide competition in the 300m sprint, the long jump, the shot put and the 1200m run, Kelley Wirth (15) scored 40 points to claim the top athlete title among the rookie girls at Friday's team event testing. Wirth was among the top performers overall in both field events, and ran a fine sub 50 clocking in the 300m.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Hughes (16) posted a 40.93 in the 300m. With a solid performance in the long jump and shot put, he held off fellow rookie boys Spencer Nichols (14) and Nathaniel Sauerberg (16) for the win.
The top veteran girls' performer was Hadley Swanson (13), who leaped 15 feet in long jump and sprinted to a 46 second finish in the 300m. Both were overall top marks as the senior posted a low total of 14 points.
The boys' best athlete was Andy VanHeuit (13), who did not win a single event, but consistently finished among the top ten in each.
