Smith Smashes Event Testing Record by Finishing on Podium in Every Discipline
Posting a remarkable 11 points to dominate Saturday's event testing challenge, Sam Smith (22) finished no worse than 3rd place in each of the 4 events. While the senior veteran specializes in the middle and long-distance events during the season, his best result on the day came in the long jump. Smith finished 2nd in the event with a leap of 15 feet and 5 inches.
Rookie Da-Yue Ng-Wu (24) finished 3rd overall in the final scoring to claim the top spot for a newcomer. The sophomore was particularly impressive in the 300m sprint.
The girls' competition was a down-to-the-wire battle between sprint veterans Sara Tabibian (22), Mari Testa (23), and Annaliese McKenzie (23). The winner was decided in the final event as Tabibian overtook Testa in the scoring by virtue of a 17th place finish in the 1200m race. The senior finished 7 places ahead of her rival to secure the victory.
Sloan Pullen (25) scored 57 points to win the rookie girls' competition.
